LEADS AND POLYNYAS WILL FORM ALONG THE COASTLINE FROM POINT LAY TO
BARROW OVER TO THE ALASKA AND CANADA BORDER THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

BLOGGER COMMENTS:

THERE APPEARS TO BE A GOOD OPEN WINDOW OF FAIR WEATHER IN THE EASTERN NORTH
PACIFIC OCEAN WHICH SHOULD PROVIDE UP TO FIVE DAYS OF DIMINISHING WINDS AND
SEAS FOR VESSELS IN THE BERING SEA AND ARCTIC CHUKCHI SEA AREAS STARTING
TUESDAY NIGHT. NEAR SHORE SEA ICE IS BREAKING UP AND MOVING AROUND FROM WINDS
ANDTIDES. THE MANGO IS IN NEAR SHORE SEAICE SOUTHWEST OF BARROW MAKING VERY
SLOW PROGRESS TOWARDS BARROW ACCORDING TO HIS AIS TRACK. IF YOU WAIT TWO
WEEKS IT COULD BE OPEN SEAS? LAST YEARS ICE BREAKUP WAS LATE - THIS YEAR
APPEARS TO BE THE SAME - LATE.

THE NEXT FAIR WEATHER WINDOW IS UNCERTAIN BUT DEFINITELY WOULD NOT BE ANY
TIME SOONER THAN A WEEK IN THE FUTURE WHEN NEW INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.

HOLD OR GO AFTER TUESDAY DEPENDING ON YOUR CREW, VESSEL AND ROUTING...

Sailing vessel TELEPORT completed a Northwest Passage upon arriving Nome last Fall in 2012. Chris and Jess decided to leave TELEPORT to winter over in Nome while they returned downunder to Australia for their summer. It is now June 2013 and they have returned back to Nome to put TELEPORT back into the Bering Sea for more cruising adventures towards Prince William Sound where they will once again put TELEPORT on the hard for another wintering over.

Here are several pictures from TELEPORT's excellant blog at http://www.yachtteleport.com/: (bottom line - Nome is NOT a great place to winter over - especially with a vessel because of the lack of marine facilities and the high cost of living.)

Besides being the gateway to the Arctic, Nome is known for this summer.... gold! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nome_Gold_Rush and http://www.visitnomealaska.com/nome-gold-dredging.html)

Read the blog here about being back in Nome and preparing TELEPORT to get underway: http://www.yachtteleport.com/news_detail.php?news_id=58

Smooth seas!
